What Is the Blackout Period?

A blackout period is a short window (approximately two weeks) during which certain participant account activities are temporarily restricted while assets and data are transferred securely from Accrue to Vestwell. During the blackout, your employees may not be able to:

  • Make changes to their investment elections
  • Adjust their contribution/savings rate
  • Request new loans or distributions

What You Can Do During the Blackout

  • As the plan sponsor, you can register on Vestwell and begin the registration flow as soon as your registration window opens.
  • Once registered, you can submit payroll contributions on Vestwell even during the blackout period.

When Will My Employees Register?

After your blackout period ends and your plan is fully live on Vestwell, your employees will receive their own email invitations to create Vestwell saver accounts. You don’t need to do anything to trigger this – it happens automatically once your plan is active. If your employees need assistance registering for their account, they can contact our saver support team at help@vestwell.com.
